CHANDRAYAN-2 SETS ITS COURSE TOWARDS THE MOON
India’s second moon mission ‘Chandrayaan-2’ left the earth’s orbit early on Wednesday, 23 days after being launched, and is moving towards the moon following the successful completion of a crucial manoeuvre called ‘Trans Lunar Insertion’.
Now there is no turning back for it, unlike Lt Governor of Jammu & Kashmir Satya Pal Malik,
The man who has lost credibility at a faster rate than the drop in the auto sales and at a quicker pace than he was demoted from a governor to a Lt Governor. At this rate, he may soon be competing with India TV & Republic TV for Red & White Bravery award and Dabar Lal Dant Manjan Satya Award.
LT GOVERNOR MALIK TAKES A U-TURN ON HIS RAHUL GANDHI INVITATION SAYS TALK TO 20 INDIAN TV NEWS CHANNELS INSTEAD
It is 14th August, 2019 and after having invited Rahul Gandhi for a trip to Jammu and Kashmir, this is what he has said according to today’s papers.
“I asked him to come and see the situation for himself. But he has put conditions for his visit — he wants to come with a delegation, then he wants to meet detained politicians. Is it possible? I never invited him with these conditions. So the invitation is withdrawn. In the last week, 20 Indian TV news channels were here. He should talk to them, find about the situation from them and educate himself,” said Malik in an exclusive interview with TOI at Raj Bhavan.
Crying Wolf again, Sir, your words don’t have much credibility left much like the 20 Indian TV news channels that you are talking about. All their news put together and then there was one BBC and one Reuters, which literally forced The Union home ministry on Tuesday did an about-turn on its claims that a report about a protest in Srinagar that day had been “completely fabricated”. It now claims, said “miscreants mingled with people returning home after prayers” on August 9 “to cause widespread unrest”
This is after the statement issued on Saturday where the ministry had denied a Reuters report that 10,000 people had protested in Srinagar after Friday prayers.
Now Lt Governor says the restrictions on the people of Jammu & Kashmir will only be lifted after 15th August. How many days later?
AUTO SALES STEEPEST FALL IN 19 YEARS, 286 DEALERSHIPS DOWNED.
Let me take a bit of a pause here and let you know that Passenger vehicles sales in India declined by 30.98% in July compared to the same month last year, logging the steepest fall in 19 years as the industry continued a nine-month-long streak of falling sales that now threatens hundreds of thousands of jobs. One minister in a report I read had even studied the reasons for the decline. Trendy, New stylish models aren’t available for youth. Hero, TVS, Honda, hire this man, NOW.
On a serious note, 286 dealership outlets downing their shutters in the last 18 months and at least 15,000 job losses estimated over the last quarter.
BJP SIKKIM MAGIC: 0 YESTERDAY, 10 TODAY
Now we need some magic to revive the economy and only BJP can do that. Honestly, Ram Madhav is the man for it like he magically made BJP emerge as the principal Opposition in Sikkim — without winning a single seat in the Assembly elections and unable to bag more than 1.62 per cent of the votes cast. The overnight change of fortunes was brought about by the switchover of 10 of the 13 MLAs of the Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) to the BJP. On Tuesday, barring Pawan Chamling, the SDF supremo and the longest-serving chief minister of the hill state, and two other MLAs, all other elected members of the party joined the BJP.
WHY DOES CBI DO A GOOD JOB WHEN THERE ARE NO POLITICAL OVERTONES IN A CASE: CJI
And it is turning out to be such a magical news day, that I feel like I am living in a unicorn’s dream.
Speaking at an event organised by the CBI, Justice Gogoi praised the CBI for being one of the few investigative agencies that has managed to carve out “a special place” for itself. Then he said, “Why is it that whenever there are no political overtones to the case, the CBI does a good job?”
Proposing a magical wand, the CJI on Tuesday said the country’s premier investigating agency– the Central Bureau of Investigation — should get “statutory status through legislation” to free it from administrative control. The statutory status, he said, must be equivalent to that of the national auditor, the Comptroller & Auditor General and advocated administrative and financial autonomy for the agency.
Thank god, he didn’t say that the role should be that of the CIC or the CJI itself.
And now we head to International news, where
HONG KONG PROTESTS CRIPPLE AIRPORT FOR THE SECOND DAY, TRUMP SAYS CHINA MOVING TROOPS TO HONG KONG
US intelligence has confirmed that China is moving troops to the border with Hong Kong, US President Donald Trump said Tuesday,
Hong Kong International Airport saw chaotic scenes on a second consecutive day of massive anti-government protests that have paralysed one of Asia’s key transport hubs.
Squads of riot police arrived shortly before midnight after thousands of demonstrators again flooded the terminal buildings during the day.
Flight departures were brought to a standstill amid scuffles.
FACEBOOK ADMITS TO SNEAKILY LISTENING IN
And on to some other news, like Facebook Inc has been paying outside contractors to transcribe audio clips from users of its services, Bloomberg has reported, citing people familiar with the matter. The company confirmed that it had been transcribing users’ audio and said it was no longer doing so.
And before I leave you for the day and the independence day of India, though it doesn’t look like for at least one part of India.
ANGRY WASPS HELP GERMAN POLICE NAB FUGITIVE
A fugitive in Germany has been nabbed thanks to the help of angry wasps.
Oldenburg police said the unusual sting operation took place Monday after officers tried to arrest a 32-year-old man to serve an outstanding 11-month custodial sentence. The suspect, whose name wasn’t released, fled from police and jumped from a balcony straight into a wasps’ nest.
The irate insects attacked the man, prompting him to run onto the street. Officers tried to apprehend him there, only to be attacked by wasps themselves. The suspect managed to break free but with wasps in hot pursuit chose to jump into an inflatable pool, where he was arrested.
DO YOU HEAR THE PEOPLE SING?
That is all from me for today, I will be back on the 16th of August, after enjoying the last vestiges of independence left in the country. Until then, good luck, good health and Jai Hind from takeapart.in and we leave you with what is perhaps the anthem of HK protests, which resonates so well. Do you hear the people sing?
