Good Morning or Should I say Hailo,
I mean the hails, the storms, the rains, and the snow, if you are not in North India, then you got to feel a bit of FOMO, even people in NOIDA are pretending they were in Shimla as the hail covered the roads.
It is 8th February and I hope you have had your caffeine in your system, so now you can go to Google and check out the Doodle for the day dedicated to Friedlieb Ferdinand Runge, a German analytical chemist was honoured by Google Doodle on Friday, on his 225th birth anniversary. Runge is remembered for identifying caffeine, the psychoactive drug present in coffee beans which is responsible for stimulating the central nervous system.
THE INDIA EYE: CURIOUS CASE OF NAMO APP PEDDLING FAKE NEWS, REPEATEDLY
BY now you may have read about the Prime Minister doing what he does best, oratory with his special skills of Congress bashing. He did not leave any jumla out of the speech. If you listen to his speeches from 2014, they are pretty much the same in 2019. Don’t know about 55 years of Congress, but Modiji, you did achieve what the congress did not, a championing of fake news factory enabled by technology.
If you do have the time go to Alt News and read about the fake news factory that the app not only promotes, but its content creators, the verified one’s, default one’s have been peddling lies that gets spread across its karyakartas to spread it further, because nothing establishes the truth than a jumla oft repeated and same thing goes for fake news. However, unlike scrutiny of misinformation on other social media platforms, the content on Namo App stays off the radar.
Misuse of social media for political one-upmanship isn’t a new phenomenon in this country. But the issue becomes even more problematic when the prime minister’s personal app promotes accounts infamous for sharing misinformation. One example is The Indian Eye. The India Eye isn’t merely a propaganda account on NaMo App. Its activities are widespread in the online world, including a Twitter account, a Facebook page, and websites.
DEFENCE MINISTRY PROTESTED AGAINST PMO UNDERMINING RAFALE NEGOTIATIONS
And that takes us to our next story, because per my observation when jumlabaaji is high, that means there is an issue that the government is trying to skirt and in all likeliness that issue is Rafale. The Hindu reports today that (and we are quoting it verbatim)
At the height of the negotiations over the controversial €7.87 billion Rafale deal between India and France, the Defence Ministry raised strong objections to “parallel negotiations” conducted by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) with the French side. Stating that it was clear that such parallel discussions by the PMO had “weakened the negotiating position of MoD and Indian Negotiating Team,” a Defence Ministry note dated November 24, 2015 brought this to the attention of the then Defence Minister, Manohar Parrikar. According to the government’s submission to the Supreme Court of India in October 2018, the negotiations over the Rafale deal were conducted by a seven-member team headed by the Deputy Chief of Air Staff. There was no mention of any role for the PMO in these negotiations. Official documents available to The Hindu reveal, however, that the Defence Ministry protested that the position taken by the PMO was “contradictory to the stand taken by MoD and the negotiating team.” The then Defence Secretary, G. Mohan Kumar, made this official notation in his own hand: “RM may pl. see. It is desirable that such discussions be avoided by the PMO as it undermines our negotiating position seriously.”
Milavati Sarkar much?
‘GOD HELP YOU IF YOU PLAYED WITH OUR ORDER’ CJI THREATENS MODI APPOINTED INTERIM CBI CHIEF
One of those famous Hindi adages about kali dal, this entire dal is kali just like the appointment of the Interim Chief who on his last day gave the Kolkata Police attack. “God help you if you played with our order” is what Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi said as the as the Supreme Court on Thursday accused him of contempt for the laxity in the investigation into rapes of children in Bihar’s government-run shelter homes. The court took serious note of violation of two earlier orders of the apex court and issued contempt notice to Nageshwar Rao for transferring AK Sharma to the CRPF on January 17 without taking prior permission from the court. The SC is monitoring the probe into the shelter home sex abuse cases.
Besides Rao, the bench also sought appearance of all other CBI officers who were involved in the transfer process of Sharma on February 12. It also directed for the presence of S Bhasu Ram, in-charge Director of Prosecution CBI, for violating its order.
Several girls were allegedly raped and sexually abused at an NGO-run shelter home in Muzaffarpur and the issue had come to light following a report by the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS).
16 STUDENTS IN BIHAR SCHOOL BEATEN MERCILESSLY BY PRINCIPAL FOR NOT SWEEPING FLOOR
Meanwhile, under Nitish Raj, who has applied the policy of wait, watch and pray for the elections to throw up arithmetic where he could be the next PM, Bihar has stayed Bihar, not really very different than Lalu’s.
Sixteen students of a government-run middle school in Bihar’s Vaishali district fell ill on Thursday after they were mercilessly beaten up by the school principal for not sweeping the school floor, the police said.
Enraged over the incident, villagers ransacked the school and demanded action against the accused school principal, Rajesh Kumar.
IN PARLIAMENT GADKARI GETS THUMPING ACCOLADES FROM SONIA & KHARGE
Moving from one PM contender to another, looks like Congress has lost all subtlety when it comes to irritating Narendra Bhai, but thankfully it is still civil and very unlike the Yogi, Swamy Shah school of politics.
Senior Congress leader and United Progressive Alliance chairperson Sonia Gandhi took even her party colleagues by surprise on Thursday when she started appreciating the achievements of Union road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari in Parliament.
During the Question Hour, Gadkari answered a few questions in which he gave a detailed description of the works that have been done by his ministry and said, “I must say here that all MPs, cutting across political affiliations, have been appreciating me for the work being done by my ministry in their respective constituencies.” As Gadkari completed the answers amid thumping of desks by ruling BJP members, Sonia Gandhi, who was patiently listening to Gadkari from her seat, smiled and started thumping the desk — a sign of deep appreciation in Parliament. She also nodded in agreement to some of the comments Gadkari made. Other Congress MPs, including party’s floor leader in Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, too started thumping the desks appreciating Gadkari’s work.
Moving to International News,
BEZOS BLACKMAIL CLAIMS ADD NEW TWIST TO TALE OF TRUMP, RUSSIA AND THE MEDIA
If you haven’t read it till now, then do go ahead and read the remarkable blog post from Jeff Bezos – Amazon CEO, world’s richest man and owner of the Washington Post – accusing the National Enquirer’s parent company of blackmail, but what it won’t tell you is that this accusation adds another bizarre strand to the tangled web tying together Donald Trump, the media and the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election. Trump has a long relationship with the National Enquirer and its CEO, David Pecker. The company long engaged in “catch and kill” agreements on behalf of Trump, paying for negative stories in order not to run them. In his blog post on Thursday, Bezos suggests the Washington Post’s reporting on the murder of its columnist Jamal Khashoggi may have made him a target of Pecker, pointing out that the National Enquirer’s owner, American Media Inc (AMI), produced a glossy pro-Saudi tabloid.
WOODY ALLEN LAUNCHES $68M LEGAL ACTION AGAINST AMAZON
And while we are on Jeff Bezos, let’s talk Amazon a bit, shall we? Especially if the news is about Woody Allen. Woody Allen has launched a $68m legal action against Amazon, alleging the studio has broken a four-film deal the director signed with the tech giant in 2016.
Allen’s most recent film, A Rainy Day in New York, appeared to have been indefinitely shelved by Amazon despite the company being contractually obliged to release it, according to the film-maker.
That is pretty much all we have for you for this week, except this last bit of news that might help you prevent a hangover. If you already did not know,
BEER BEFORE WINE, OR WINE BEFORE BEER; WHATEVER THE ORDER, YOU’LL FEEL QUEER
Beer before wine, or wine before beer; whatever the order, you’ll feel queer. That, at least, is the updated aphorism drinkers will have to embrace now scientists have proved that drink order has no effect on the magnitude of one’s hangover. the study only compared beer with white wine, and did not include red wine, spirits or dark beers.
So go ahead enjoy in whatever order because it’s the excess that does it not the order of it. On that wise note, we wish you a happy weekend and good bye until Monday next week. Thank you from takeapart.in
